The Wellcome Data Science Ideathon is a competition that will have teams compete to propose data science solutions to tackle three urgent health challenges: mental health, infectious diseases, and climate and health.
The aim of this funding scheme is to unlock climate action by making the direct and environmentally driven impacts of climate change on a wide range of physical and mental health outcomes visible - with a focus on the expressed needs of at-risk populations and communities most impacted by climate change.
Up to 3 years
Up to £2.5 million. In exceptional cases we may award above this.
Wellcome will fund researchers and teams who will validate markers to enable stratification in anxiety and/or depression as early as possible.
Up to 5 years
Up to £5 million
Wellcome will fund teams who will generate evidence on the use of the oral cholera vaccine, to be used in decision-making for future preventative vaccine campaigns.
Up to 5 years
Up to 1.3 million
This scheme provides funding for established researchers and teams from any discipline who want to pursue bold and creative research ideas to deliver significant shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health and wellbeing.
Usually 8 years, but may be less for some disciplines, and may only be longer if held on a part-time basis.

This scheme provides funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline who have the potential to be international research leaders. They will develop their research capabilities, drive innovative programmes of work and deliver significant shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health and wellbeing.
Usually 8 years, but may be less for some disciplines and may only be longer if held on a part-time basis.

This scheme provides funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity. Through innovative projects, they will deliver shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health and wellbeing. By the end of the award, they will be ready to lead their own independent research programme.
Usually 5 years, but may be less for some disciplines, and may only be longer if held on a part-time basis.
Your salary and up to £400,000 for research expenses. If eligible, you may also request additional funding for overseas allowances and overheads.

Wellcome will fund teams of researchers investigating the biological vulnerability to extreme heat in maternal and child health.

Up to £2 million per award. In exceptional cases we may award above £2 million.
Wellcome will fund individuals or teams researching the interdependent roles of sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions in the development and resolution of mental health problems including anxiety, depression and psychosis.
