Project summary
This programme will train professionals to address key public health research needs. It will include improving healthcare through genetically-driven drug discovery, genetic prediction of disease progression and drug response, and equal representation of minority ethnic and people with non-European ancestry in genetic research. We will advance the benefits of developments in genomics for hard-to-reach communities and the implications of genomics for healthcare professionals and policy makers.
We will achieve these goals through a flexible trainee-centred programme designed using feedback from PhD trainees and early career researchers. Our programme will cover skills development in priority areas of statistics, data science, computer programming, epidemiology, genomics and social science, medical law and ethics, and public health. We will develop inter-disciplinary skills and perspectives that can be used effectively in different workplaces. There will be opportunities for research placements in industry or addressing the priorities of low- and middle-income countries. We will develop trainee track records of high-quality, visible research and prepare our students for career transitions.
