

Florian von Groote, Head of Clinical Research
Florian leads Wellcome’s Infectious Disease Clinical Research Team, aiming to advance high-impact clinical studies to prevent and treat infectious diseases worldwide, ensuring that innovations reach the communities who need them most.
Before joining Wellcome, he served as Executive Vice President, Global Health at Evotec, directing international programmes in global health drug discovery and development. There, he led cross-functional teams developing novel therapeutics for a variety of infectious diseases.
Previously, he was Director at TASK Applied Science in Cape Town, a leading African clinical research organisation, where he oversaw early- to late-phase clinical trials in tuberculosis and HIV, working closely with global partners to deliver studies in complex, resource-limited settings.
Florian is a specialist physician in internal medicine and pulmonology, trained in Germany and South Africa.
