Science Policy Labs
We influence and develop science policies that enable scientific discovery and deliver faster, fairer health benefits in a rapidly changing world.
What Science Policy Labs does
Our work combines advocacy, policy research and analysis, and experimental methods to understand science policy challenges as well as collaboratively develop better solutions to them.
What we want to achieve
Science Policy Labs aims to ensure science can thrive and deliver equitable health outcomes in an era of profound transformation.
Advances in AI and scientific convergence are reshaping how discovery happens. At the same time, geopolitical tensions and economic pressures are challenging existing models of collaboration, funding and openness.
We want to help policy makers and peers respond to this moment. We work with communities of experts around the world to improve the public policies, systems and institutions that enable and advance science in the public interest.
Our focus areas
Our areas of interest include:
Strengthening the future UK research and development system. This includes supporting science advocacy and improving the dynamism of the UK institutional landscape. One way we do this is through our partnership with the UK government on the £600 million Health Data Research Service.
Shaping global collaboration and governance of science for equitable impact. This includes seeking to understand and influence major global funding flows for discovery research, enhancing science diplomacy, and updating the governance of open data for science for a new era.
Ensuring that policy keeps pace with frontier discovery. This includes enabling responsible progress in areas like engineering biology, neuroscience, embryology and AI for science.
