Julia Kemp, Head of Major International Programmes
Julia Kemp is Head of Major International Programmes, leading the team responsible for the delivery of Wellcome’s major international research investments. That includes Wellcome’s five Africa and Asia Programmes, Science for Africa (through which Wellcome funds DELTAS II Africa) and the India Alliance.
Prior to joining Wellcome, Julia was Deputy Director of Research at the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), where she led the portfolio of outcome focussed research to address international development challenges.
In previous roles at the UK’s Department of International Development, Julia set up the regional East Africa Research and Innovation Hub based in Nairobi, Kenya, and as a Health Adviser, she led the UK bilateral health and HIV portfolios in Myanmar and Malawi.
Julia has a PhD in international health and prior to joining the UK government, she led research on equity in access to health.
