Established researcher

During this stage in your research career, you will have experience leading innovative research and aim to make a significant contribution to your field.

Your career stage and experience

As an established researcher, you will have the experience needed to drive and lead a research programme. You will have a track record of managing and training others.

If applying as a lead applicant, you will have a permanent, open-ended or long-term rolling contract.

Always check the funding scheme or funding call details for specific eligibility requirements.

Established researcher funding opportunities

If you are an established researcher working in any discipline, you can apply for these funding opportunities providing you meet the individual scheme or call’s eligibility criteria. If you are applying to the Discovery Award, the proposed research must align with our strategy.

An established researcher can hold one Discovery Award where they are the sole applicant. An established researcher can also hold Discovery Awards as the lead of a team - there is no set limit to this.

An established researcher can also be a coapplicant on other Wellcome awards. There is no limit on the number of awards a researcher can hold as a coapplicant. Read more about how many grants you can hold at the same time.
