Project summary

CONCEPT: The overall aim of the work described will be to successfully deliver an Africa-centric research support hub that provides practical research and grantsmanship skills required to conceptualise research and successfully fundraise for it. APPROACH: We propose to leverage on existing platforms, models and capacity strengthening programs to create a research support hub with three satellite stations to serve 1) West and Central Africa (bilingual French/English), 2) Southern Africa and 3) Eastern Africa. The research support hub will provide access to resources, mentorship, light training, and intense training with protected time to post PhD early and mid-career researchers in the three regions. The satellite centres will be complemented by the creation of an on-line course on grantsmanship that will be delivered regularly, the dissemination of key ideas through regular webinars, and the establishment of a pan-African community of practice for research fundraising. The satellite in West/Central Africa will strengthen bilingual facilitators’ capacities and generate resources in French that will support French-speaking researchers to write stronger proposals in English. IMPACT: A community of well networked pan- African researchers that have been capacitated to lead fundable proposals and that can support others to develop into researcher leaders.
