Cheryl joined Wellcome in 2021 to lead our research programmes team, having been involved as an external advisor in our scientific review. Since then, she has led the implementation of our four research programmes - Discovery Research, Mental Health, Infectious Disease and Climate and Health.

Today these programmes work together as a portfolio that balances early- and late-stage research, discovery and solutions, geographical and other types of diversity, and catalytic and sustaining funding.

Cheryl’s leadership has seen some transformative investments, such as in the M72 TB vaccine, treatment trials for psychosis, and our eight discovery research platforms, that exemplify the contribution Wellcome can make to a healthier future for everyone.

Her work over the past three years has laid a strong foundation to deliver our strategy and to realise our vision of a healthier future for everyone. This work will continue as arrangements are put in place for the leadership of our research programmes.
