Project summary
The consumption and use of unhealthy products are major risk factors in chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Research into the role of transnational companies (TNCs) that manufacture and market these products is complex and involves understanding the interactions between business strategy, product development, efforts to influence politics and culture, and the disruption of existing forms of production, leisure and social organisation.
We will organise a two-day workshop in Cape Town, South Africa that pushes the boundaries of research in this area and promotes its translation into public health advocacy, policy and practice. The workshop will be attended by people from non-governmental organisations and community organisations and academics with different skills and expertise.
The workshop will build capacity, particularly in the global south, cultivate knowledge exchange between scholars and civil society, and forge new modes of interdisciplinary collaboration that can affect policy.
