Jimmy Volmink, Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer

Jimmy joined Wellcome in 2023 as Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer and leads our work to become an inclusive funder. He works in partnership with the whole executive leadership team to support Wellcome in becoming an inclusive employer.

Jimmy joined Wellcome from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, where he is Emeritus Professor of Global Health. He was previously Dean of Medicine and Health Sciences.
 
As Dean, he led the organisation through significant change. This included enhancing diversity, inclusion and community engagement. He also created a department of global health in the faculty.
 
Jimmy began his career as a doctor in disadvantaged communities in South Africa and Eswatini, sparking his interest in public health.
 
He then became the founding director of Cochrane South Africa, part of the international Cochrane network that works to support evidence-based health care.
