Wellcome responds to new childhood vaccination figures

Charlie Weller, Head of Prevention, Infectious Disease at Wellcome, said

“Millions of children are missing out on vaccination. Efforts to reach them are not sufficiently turning the trajectory. While positive gains have been made with significant increases seen in HPV vaccine uptake, we are also seeing children dying from diseases for which we have an effective vaccine, like measles.

“Conflict, instability and climate change continue to increase vulnerability to disease and present challenges for vaccination, against a backdrop of changing global financing. These challenges require new, equitable approaches that are responsive to changing local realities – from enhanced surveillance, to vaccine innovation and delivery that meets the community needs.”
