Wellcome responds to Labour's plan for the life sciences sector

Beth Thompson, Chief Strategy Officer at Wellcome, says:

“Investing in life sciences is vital to drive forward advances in health that matter to everyone. The measures in Labour’s life sciences plan are a strong step in the right direction. 

“Ten-year budgets for science and research institutions is a significant increase on the timeframe which is already in place. Greater certainty will allow organisations to be more strategic and also contribute to an environment that attracts more private investment.

“With a shortage of lab space holding back innovation, favouring labs in planning applications will help the sector grow and speed up new discoveries.

“I hope to see equally strong commitments from all parties given the importance of life sciences to our health and to the economy.”
