"The next government has the opportunity to make the UK the best place in the world for science and R&D. We look forward to working in partnership with them to achieve this.

“Quick action on the manifesto commitment to introduce long-term public funding for research institutions will give researchers the stability and confidence to focus on producing their best work. Additionally, lowering the huge up-front visa costs for researchers would ensure the UK continues to attract the brightest talent and stays competitive on the international stage.

“In the long-term, the UK should aim to lead the G7 in the proportion of our GDP spent on R&D. Investing in research is the solution to bring growth to the economy, boost the nation’s finances and improve health around the world.”
