Media statement in response to Horizon Europe comments
This is our response to the comments made at the Northern Ireland deal press conference by Ursula von der Leyen, in relation to Horizon Europe.
Martin Smith, Head of Policy Lab at Wellcome, said:
“After years of uncertainty, the announcement that work to finalise the UK's participation in Horizon Europe can begin imminently will come as a massive relief for scientists on both sides of the channel.
“The political goodwill demonstrated today offers hope that resolving the remaining technicalities for Horizon Europe association can be a smooth process.
“We are now on a path where the EU and UK’s relationship can be rebuilt, and science can play a major role in that. Investment in research is good for economies and it’s good for the health of everyone who benefits from new discoveries.
“The best science comes from collaboration and it’s fantastic news that we are set to see a return to that being facilitated through Horizon Europe.”
