Vawdrey Archive project

The Vawdrey Archive offers a rare insight into the use of art therapy and an analysis of its impact based on the work of Dr Brian Vawdrey. We will create an online ISAD(G)-compatible catalogue. This will be informed by a consultation process with charity Outside In which provides a platform for artists who face barriers to the art world. We will digitise the  artwork in the archive along with Dr Vawdrey’s thesis. This will enable remote access to the archive and limit the handling of the originals. The artwork will be preserved and repairs will be made when necessary.

Outside In will run consultation sessions with artists with experiences of mental health issues. Feedback from sessions will be incorporated into the catalogue. We will share the findings from the consultation with relevant groups at two events as well as blog posts and a summary report.

We will create pages on the Outside In website that include a searchable online database of digitised patients' artwork and the project’s findings.
