Project summary

I will research the consequences of integrating health and social care in England in 2016. This research is interested in the health outcomes for residents in a city-region which has devolved governance and delivery systems in place to localise and integrate health and social care responsibility. I intend to use a mixed-methods research design that will evaluate some of the outcomes of integrated care by focusing on the most developed case: the Greater Manchester model. My primary research question is: "Has the integration of a health and social care budget in Greater Manchester increased health inequalities, decreased health inequalities, or both?" This research will indicate whether there are 'devolution differences' available to English city-regions and also the impact of integrating care services on population health and geographic inequality.
