Project summary

We will run a series of science fairs at the three secondary schools that our main study recruits from. The fairs will foster a creative environment using interactive games, audio-visual media and a website. Students will be invited to present their science projects and enter an essay competition showing how science can be used to solve a problem in their community. Students will win prizes for their science classes by taking part. We will develop a database of diverse health researchers and scientists who can support the fairs and community engagement. This will give students the opportunity to explore their career options in health research and science. We will deliver four science fairs in the first year. In the second year, the schools will run their own fairs using the online and physical resources we have gathered. 

This project will benefit future science students and increase participation in science activities. We will also develop a model of public engagement that can be replicated in different areas of the country with limited resources.
