Project summary

More than half of all global population growth will take place in Africa by 2050. Researchers have argued that understanding past population trends is essential to influencing the present and future, and there is growing interest in Africa’s population histories.

I will seek to improve collaboration and communication between scholars working on African population history. This will enable more comparative work and larger projects in the future, as well as fostering new research and teaching on the subject. I will achieve this aim through establishing the African Population History Network (APHN) and organising two international seminars in 2020 and 2021.

The seminars will lead to a joint publication and an application for a collaborative award.
