Project summary

My career vision is to lead the field of anthropological research on health policy and systems in Pakistan, in order to drive new directions in this field, and promote scholarly capacity in the country. If successful in receiving this Award, I would aim to achieve this vision by pursuing four central objectives: (1) building on my fieldwork for, and completing my book on doctor activism in Pakistan, which will conceptually redirect scholarship on health citizenship by incorporating the role of health professionals within this politics, and have wider relevance for understanding the politics of health in other LMICs, especially in South Asia; (2) enhancing and extending my networks within academic and policy research on health in Pakistan, and other South Asian countries, so as to promote scholarly capacity on the anthropology of health policy and systems, engage and dialogue with policy stakeholders in Pakistan, and build towards future research; (3) undertaking academic leadership training to advance my career; and (4) developing a collaboration focused on the comparative analysis of health worker activism across South Asia, for a future Wellcome Discovery Award grant application.
