Project summary

Viral hepatitis refers to a collection of illnesses that affect liver health over time. Hepatitis now causes more deaths than HIV or malaria and it is a global health priority that needs attention. There are vaccinations and treatments for viral hepatitis, so elimination is possible, yet levels of screening, diagnosis and treatment remains low globally.

To better understand the most effective prevention and treatment programmes in specific contexts, we need to understand how people experience hepatitis and what the community thinks about the different types of hepatitis and liver disease. In this project, we will form a network of social science researchers from multiple countries to discuss the research we have conducted and design a research agenda that will explore these issues in more detail.

Our goal is to improve hepatitis-specific health programmes.
