How to report grant progress

We ask grantholders to complete a progress report:

  • annually, on the anniversary of the grant start date
  • at the end of the grant
  • two and five years after the end of the grant

If your grant requires a progress report we will send you an automated email on the anniversary of your grant start date asking you to submit your progress report on the Wellcome Funding platform.

You have six weeks to submit the report. You can assign guest editors to the report, who will also be able to complete and submit the report.

We do not expect you to submit a report if you are on any type of leave from your grant.

What this report will be used for

The information you provide through this report helps Wellcome track the progress of our awards and the outputs they generate, in particular outputs that can't be easily found in other data sources, such as Europe PubMed Central.

This allows us to monitor and learn about the work we fund and understand the impact of our funding.

From 1 September 2025 we will stop requesting annual reports ahead of the launch of the new progress reports. If the anniversary of your grant start date falls on or after this date we will request you complete your annual report on the new progress report once launched. If you want to start preparing your report early, use the sample progress report.

The information you report in the form will build cumulatively over the lifetime of your grant. We will playback information you have already reported so you don’t have to re-enter this every time you report.

For grantholders whose grant is ending on or before the 30 September 2026 that will be reported on Researchfish:
