Our partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences provides support for biomedical and clinical researchers at an early career stage through a range of schemes: Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers, Springboard Awards, INSPIRE and Daniel Turnberg Travel Fellowships.
In 2015, we started a partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences to administer Springboard Awards – a scheme to support biomedical researchers newly appointed to their first independent position. At the same time, we launched our Seed Awards in Science in 2015 to help researchers develop ideas that could go on to form part of larger grant applications.
Both the Springboard and Seed schemes are targeted at researchers at a similar career stage.
Following a review of both schemes, we have decided to close our Seed Awards in Science and continue supporting the Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard Awards for a further three years to 2021.
A key feature of the Springboard Award is institutional support and networking for award holders.
We’re making these changes so we can deliver funding in a way that maximises the support early career researchers receive at what is a key transition point in their career. This aligns to our Science strategy pillar to strengthen research capability.
The decision was taken earlier this year and is not part of our wider review of how we support science.
Deadlines and how to apply
Our existing Seed Awards in Science will close after the 11 March 2019 deadline. Details about eligibility and how to apply for awards administered by the Academy of Medical Sciences are available on the scheme pages:
