Project summary
Since the passage of the AMR GAP in 2015, many LMICs have developed their AMR National Action Plans. However, their implementation faces significant challenges, including a lack of political commitment, insufficient resources (both financial and human), inadequate data, poor cross-sector coordination, and the absence of clear reporting targets. This project aims to understand how governance frameworks, which include accountability and M&E, can be strengthened to catalyse action. In light of the upcoming UNGA-HLM in 2024, some discussions have focused on target setting, identifying targets that countries can adopt to benchmark their progress. However, without robust governance and accountability frameworks, countries may fall short of these targets. To address this gap, we aim to engage with stakeholders from LMICs to understand their unique perspectives on setting targets and developing accountability mechanisms for AMR. This engagement is intended to strengthen and identify key enablers in supporting the implementation of NAPs, advancing both country-specific and global commitments. In addition to a rapid synthesis of literature, we aim to collect comprehensive insights from LMIC stakeholders through key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and the distribution of questionnaires. The outcome will be a proposed framework designed to incentivize NAP implementation and measure progress.
