Media statement in response to next UK Minister for Science and Investment Security

Martin Smith, Head of Policy Lab at Wellcome, said: 

"We look forward to working with Nusrat Ghani as the new Minister for Science and Investment Security. She steps into her role at a crucial time for UK and international science.
 
"Ms Ghani takes up the mantle as the UK’s participation in Horizon Europe, the largest international research funding programme in the world, is still hanging in the balance. We strongly believe that it is in both the UK and the EU’s best interests to agree on an urgent resolution to allow the UK to take part in the scheme. If this is not possible, we are confident that the new science minister will work hard to produce the best Plan B solution for scientists to ensure that they can continue their vital work across borders.
