Damehood for Fiona Powrie in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Prof Fiona Powrie, Deputy Chair of Wellcome’s Board of Governors and Director of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at the University of Oxford, has been awarded a Damehood for services to Medical Sciences.

Jeremy Farrar, Director of Wellcome, said: “I’m thrilled that Fiona’s outstanding contributions to medical research have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. The work by Fiona and her team have truly transformed our understanding of how the immune system interacts with the gut microbiome, providing crucial clinical insight into inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer.

“Since joining Wellcome’s Board of Governors in 2018, I and many others at Wellcome are very grateful to work alongside Fiona. Her tireless passion and advocacy for early career researchers is an inspiration. From all at Wellcome, we wish Fiona the warmest of congratulations.”

Prof Fiona Powrie is Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences and Director of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at the University of Oxford. She was appointed a Governor of Wellcome in 2018 and became Deputy Chair in 2022.
