Springboard - Health of the Public 2040 Awards (Closed)

Springboard - Health of the Public 2040 Awards support health social sciences and medical humanities researchers to launch independent careers. The scheme is a collaboration between the Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) and Wellcome.

Who can apply

You can apply for a Springboard - Health of the Public 2040 Award if:

  • you hold an established academic research position at your organisation
  • you were appointed to your first established, independent post less than three years ago
  • your current post provides you with a salary
  • you don’t currently hold significant research funding (above £40,000 a year)
  • you have enough time left in your post to complete the proposed project.

Who can't apply

If you’re a practising clinician, you can’t apply to this scheme. You may be able to apply for a Starter Grant for Clinical Lecturers instead.

Scheme finder

A Springboard Health of the Public 2040 Award from the AMS offers up to £50,000 over two years. You cannot apply for less than £25,000 over two years.

You can use the award to cover:

  • research expenses
  • training and professional development
  • employment of support staff
  • consumables and equipment
  • access to technical support
  • travel costs for training and meetings.

If successful, AMS will also offer you mentoring and career support.

What we don’t offer

Funding cannot be used to pay for your personal salary costs or to buy out teaching time.

This scheme has now closed.
