

Dr Sabrina Lamour-Julien, Research Lead
Dr Sabrina Lamour-Julien (she/her) is a Research Lead in Infectious Diseases at Wellcome. She is responsible for driving research and development for novel therapeutics that are affordable, appropriate, and accessible for communities most in need.
Sabrina manages a team that oversees and supports drug discovery, early clinical development, and evidence generation for vector-borne diseases (including neglected tropical diseases) and drug-resistant bacterial infections (antimicrobial resistance). In her previous role at Wellcome, Sabrina supported a diverse portfolio of product development projects and translational capacity-building activities. She was also the Chair of Wellcome’s Race Equity Network from 2020-2021.
Prior to joining Wellcome in 2018, Sabrina managed international HIV modelling projects supporting national and regional statistics and reports feeding into decision-making for HIV programmes, based at Imperial College London. Previously, Sabrina worked as a researcher in early drug discovery for multiple years in industry in the UK and Germany, working on biologic and small molecule programmes.
She holds a PhD in Clinical Research and an MRes in Biomedical Research, specialising in host-pathogen responses. Sabrina is also a member of external scientific committees, supporting global health R&D (panel expert for Right Foundation) and research capacity strengthening in Africa (RAFIKI).
Key interests include: translational and equitable research in infectious disease, drug discovery and development, antimicrobial resistance, neglected tropical diseases, global health and growing the next-generation of leaders.

In her previous role, Sabrina was part of the Innovations team at Wellcome. She developed and oversaw a diverse set of initiatives, including a portfolio of drug discovery, technology, and diagnostic projects in neglected tropical diseases and febrile illnesses for low-income settings. She was also the Chair of Wellcome’s Race Equity Network from 2020-2021.
Prior to joining Wellcome in 2018, Sabrina worked for multiple years as an immunologist in drug discovery for pharma/biotech in the UK and Germany, and as a project manager on HIV modelling work. She holds a PhD in Clinical Research and MRes in Biomedical Research, specialising in host responses towards parasitic and viral infections.
